Innovation for a fairer society

This week I was participating in a forum for Corporate Social Responsibility, organized by the Spanish NGO “Acción contra el hambre”(Action Against Hunger) and focused on the role of the market in delivering social goals and contributing to a fairer and sustainable society.

The data presented by “Acción contra el hambre” are truly alarming: 8,000 children die every day of hunger. This is, without a doubt, an important challenge for businesses, especially in the food industry. And it can be addressed. There are two types of companies, those that tell you the time and those that build clocks. The latter are the ones that will be able to innovate, improve, and make a change.

Digital revolution is one of the greatest revolutions of all time and an opportunity for change. It is just a different way to see the world. We are able to generate abundance and produce better, cheaper, safe, and sustainable food. For that we need to challenge the “statu quo” and transform the agrifood value chain, enabling food producers to reach anywhere.

We need new business models that encourage collaboration between companies and new business relations based on trust and transparency all over the food supply chain. This will lead to constant innovation and more sustainable businesses to address challenges such as child malnutrition and feeding a growing population worldwide.

In Blendhub, we are already working along this line as part of our commitment with a change in the agrifood value chain that enables access to basic food stuffs to be more just and safer, reaching more people in more places. We want collaborators and partners to join us in this challenge that we want to address through a different business model, SMART Powder Blends, and open innovation.
